After replacing a DVD Driver with a new HDD caddy, the laptop computer does not shut down completely, power light is still on!..

In short, when you install a new hdd caddy into your laptop computer instead of DVD driver slot, if your computer does n’t shut down properly and power light is still on although you do Start>>Shut Down on Windows?

You can find the answers to your problems like these!..

A computer hardware problem I’ve had recently took me a long time. Finally I figured out the problem. I share the same problem, the solution for the living.

I replaced my DVD driver on my laptop with a new 2.5 ” HDD Caddy. I put a SSD disk into that.

Both hard disks in a laptop works fine but now computer does not shut down properly. When I make Start>> Shut Down, windows is shutting down, the screen goes blank but power light does not turn off is still on. So the computer does not turn off fully. I have to hold the power button down to shut down the computer. If I don’t shut down completely by holding down the power button,  I notice the computer is very hot several hours. Also holding down power button to shut down computer kills hard disk so I had to find an urgent solution to the situation.

The recommendations about Power Options in Control Panel, the bios or driver updates or the operating system formatting… None of them will not work for you, so ignore it. Because your problem is hardware. At least it was for me.

Solution: SATA pin MUST NOT be connected to ground signal. I find solution by modifying circuit board of caddy. Only thing you need to do is to remove 3nd pin connection from right side of the circuit board of HDD caddy. 3nd pin connection is shown in red color in the first image below. You can see that 3rd pin has been disconnected in 2nd picture below. You either do it or get a new HDD caddy.
